Kona Plein Air Painting Schedule
Below is the schedule for upcoming locations. I'll try for variety with north, south, and in town areas each month. Please recommend new sites as you come across them. Remember, we need close parking, shade, and a bathroom/sanikan at the sites. The list of directions is below the current month's schedule. I'll refine these soon.
March 10 - Keauhou Bay

March 31 - Old Airport
April 7 – Magic Sands (I’ll be out of town so need someone to lead the critique)
April 14 - Waikoloa Beach- Anaehoomalu Bay
April 21 – Kaloko Ponds
April 28 -Pine Trees Beach (South side, turn left at beach)
May 5 – Hookena Beach
May 12 – Kukio Beach
May 19 – Honokohau Harbor Park
May 26 – Honl’s Beach Park
June 2 – Beach 69 Waialea Bay
June 9 – Keauhou Bay (We may be able to paint on Outrigger Hotel grounds. More details will follow)

North to South
Hapuna Beach
N. about 35 miles from Kona
Beach 69- Waialea Bay
1 Mile south of Hapuna beach on same road
Waikoloa Beach- Anaehoomalu Bay
About 30 miles north of Kona. Follow signs to beach access and Lava Lava Beach club
Kukio Beach
About 15 miles N. of Kona. Stop at hut to get a beach pass. Go early as these tend to go fast.
Kua Bay
About 10 miles N. of Kona. Limited shade so if you have an umbrella bring it.
Kekaha Kai Park
About 8 miles N. of Kona, very rough road so travel at your own risk. We are not currenlty scheduling meets here.
Pine Trees Beach- Wawaloli Bay
Just S. of the airport. At the end of the road at the beach the road goes N or S so we will announce which way to go.
HELU(Energy Lab Beach)
Entrance S. of Airport. Turn at entrance then left and right and right again to get to the beach. The old entrance is now entered from S. bound lanes only.
Kaloko Ponds
Entrance on S. lanes of hwy across from Costco shopping center so if coming from S. must go past it and turn left at Hina Lani and double back.
Honokohau Harbor
Just north of Kona. Take road into harbor, take first right, then either park closest to the beach/park path entrance, or make a left and a right toward harbor and park there and take the path along the harbor to the beach with it’s canoe Hale (Hut). It's about 1/4 mile either way to the beach.
Old Airport Beach
Off Kuakina Hywy where it ends. (Below Crossroads Shopping Center). Take the left into the park, then right on the old runway to the end. Park there and enter the north beach area.
Downtown Kona (Kona Inn)
Meet behind Kona Inn, red roofs. Parking is now pay in the area so come early to find free or street parking. We are currently not scheduling meets for here until figure out the parking.
Honl’s Park
Just S. of downtown and Coconut Grove shopping center, off Ali’i Drive at base of hill driving south from downtown.
Pahoehoe Park
On Ali’i Drive just N. of Magic Sands beach and La'aloa.
Magic Sands Beach
Just N. of La'aloa. Parking along beach and across the street. New bathroom under construction.
Kahaluu Beach
On Ali'i Drive between Magic Sands and Keauhou. Locals park free with signup at booth. Non-locals can pay $12 to park or park on street across from or above entrance.
Keauhou Bay
At base of Kamahameha III road, below Keauhou Shopping Center. Downhill to end of road. Park at end or on street sides.
Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park (City of Refuge)
Need a national park pass or pay a fee. Drive into park, then right and left to parking lot along beach.
Hookena Beach
About 17 miles S. of Kona. Turn past school, road is marked. About 2 miles downhill, then take left single lane road to beach and parking.
